This project is a modern re-make of an original mid-century townhouse on Manhattan's Upper East Side. A large, open living area on the first floor leads through to a kitchen overlooking the rear garden. A new interior stair rises up to the private floors with bedrooms and offices above. The stairway is composed as a three-story lightwell, with translucent glass block floors and a skylight overhead. The addition of a third story, roof garden and glass facade combine to reveal the context of urban domesticity.
